HATEBREED
SUMMER BREEZE has already survived a few tremors over the last few years, but the most severe eruption of them all is yet to come. HATEBREED are gearing up to utterly destroy Dinkelsbühl in 2011 with their killer songs. No other band out there combines the attitude and aggression of hardcore and the uncompromising heaviness of metal in such a perfect way. Scene icon Jamey Jasta and his wrecking crew are the epitome of unleashed energy, the embodiment of credibility, the essence of groove, the purest form of brutality, the rulers of all pits and the blueprint for a whole generation, all rolled into one. Please welcome one of the most important and influential bands of the last decade for the first time at SUMMER BREEZE! Hard, harder, HATEBREED!
SODOM
'M-16' was the last album SODOM presented live at SUMMER BREEZE. A long seven years have passed since then, seven years that haven't changed Tom Angelripper & Co. in the least, as evidenced by their great new album 'In War And Pieces'. SODOM are perfect proof that a life devoted entirely to metal preserves the body and soul. Could you even guess that in 2011 they will be celebrating their 30th anniversary, meaning that they were already touring the world when many SUMMER BREEZE attendants were nothing but a libidinous glance in their father's eyes? The trio's numerous thrash classics belong to the inventory of any respectable metal collection and shouldn't be missing from the festival action in Dinkelsbühl either. You better take cover, as SUMMER BREEZE is about to be 'Ausgebombt'!
MOONSORROW
So you love the special romanticism surrounding devastated battlefields with ravens circling above in preparation for their feast? Then MOONSORROW are just the right thing for you. These Finns are among the leaders of the still booming pagan metal movement. While their last album, 2008's “Tulimyrsky”, captivated their fans with the band's very own, original mix of cold black metal, majestic viking metal, heartfelt folk parts and imposing epicness, they have now had to wait two long years for new material. The group has been ensconced in the studio since September recording their new album, which will see the light of day in February 2011. So, by the time they take the stage at SUMMER BREEZE 2011, the wait for new songs, probably of epic proportions again, will definitely be long over. A reason to rejoice, we think.
DECAPITATED
2007 was a fateful year in the career of up-and-coming Polish death metallers DECAPITATED: Drummer Vitek was killed in a bus accident while on tour, and vocalist Covan is still recovering from his injuries, unable to perform. With their first four albums being considered absolute landmarks in techncial death metal, the band decided in 2009 to carry on. New band members were recruited, successful tours in mainland Europe and the UK followed. At this point, around half of their new album has been completed, and the entire scene is holding its breath. DECAPITATED's very first appearance at SUMMER BREEZE will be a very special moment in the history of the festival. Don't miss it!
SONIC SYNDICATE
In the last few years, no other band has shook and polarized the metal scene as much as SONIC SYNDICATE. Their debut album ‘Only Human’ went straight to number 64 in the German album charts! Quite an achievement for such a young band, who beat around 1,000 other contestants in a newcomer competition organized by label giant Nuclear Blast, gaining a recording contract in the process. Deservedly so, as one has to admit a few years down the line. Hailing from Sweden and featuring in their ranks the gorgeous bassist Karin Axelsson, the band has outgrown the comparisons to their inspirators In Flames and Soilwork, standing on their own two feet since the release of their latest record “We Rule The Night”(#22 in the German album charts), which presents a reduced portion of metal and more rock instead. Welcome back to Dinkelsbühl!
TARJA
Together with Tuomas Holopainen, she formed a band called Nightwish. To this date, five years after her acrimonious dismissal, for many people she is still the Finnish megasellers' only true voice. But Tarja has gone on to prove what many would never have expected from her. Since 2005 she has been successfully performing under the TARJA banner, and her last two studio albums, ‘My Winter Storm’ and ‘What Lies Beneath’, made it into the German album charts' top 5. Her charismatic opera voice hasn't lost any of its mystique as she floats like an elf over the solid gothic rock/metal foundation that her illustrious backing band, featuring Alex Scholpp (Farmer Boys, Tieflader) and Mike Terrana (Rage, Axel Rudi Pell, etc.) among others, lay out for her like a red carpet. We are happy to welcome TARJA, the band, for the first time and Tarja Turunen, the singer, for the second time (after 2002 with Nightwish) at SUMMER BREEZE Open Air.
VADER
There are only very few European death metal bands who can look back on such a long and successful career as VADER. Two years ago the band led by frontman Peter celebrated their 25th anniversary with the superb “XXV” best-of collection. The following studio album “Necropolis” went on to prove that the Polish death metal institution hasn't lost any of its punch despite its over a quarter of a century of age. Still in 2011 there is no way around VADER! For ages they have been a guarantee for intense, captivating live performances, not to mention the fact that they were true pioneers in putting Eastern Europe on the death metal map. Absolutely mandatory, so don't you dare miss the Nuclear Blast Label Night!
DESTRUCTION
DESTRUCTION, the godfathers of German thrash alongside KREATOR and SODOM, will come for the second time (their first appearance was in 2008) to lay waste to SUMMER BREEZE! Back in their old label home Nuclear Blast, Schmier & Co.'s razor sharp riffs – even 29 years after their formation – will make sure that the Nuclear Blast Label Night 2011 stays in everyone's memories (and necks!) for a long time. Is there any better way to start a festival than headbanging to immortal thrash classics such as 'Curse The Gods', 'Mad Butcher' and 'Bestial Invasion' (to name but a very few) as if there was no tomorrow? To say it with DESTRUCTION's own words: Come along and thrash 'til death with these living legends of the scene!
MELECHESH
Mesopotamian death/black metal, anyone? Or let's put it this way: Are you ready for some original, extreme, intelligent, exotic oriental metal in between death and black? MELECHESH will grace the stage at SUMMER BREEZE for the first time in their career – as part of the Nuclear Blast Label Night – to show how gripping this mystic-flavored, hell-spawned brand of metal can be. Originally hailing from israel and now residing in the Netherlands, the band led by chief songwriter Ashmedi belongs to the few absolute visionaries in a scene starving for new ideas. Those of you looking for an alternative to Scandinavian black metal will find what they are after, as MELECHESH's roots lie deep in oriental culture. Fascinating band!
SCAR SYMMETRY
In the last few years, SCAR SYMMETRY have secretly taken a place among the leaders of the melodic death metal movement with four extremely strong albums. In doing so, they even had to face the difficult task of replacing such an exceptional singer as Christian Älvestam before recording their last album 'Dark Matter Dimensions', a task which the two (!) new frontmen, Roberth Karlsson and Lars Palmqvist, have mastered with surprising bravery. However, SCAR SYMMETRY in no way deliver average material, with a high percentage of clean vocals, almost progressive guitar solos and complex song structures clearly setting them apart from genre pioneers such as Dark Tranquillity and In Flames. This makes SCAR SYMMETRY an exception in melodic death metal, also making them interesting for fans of lighter sounds and power metal afficionados. Don't miss the Nuclear Blast Label Night!
SYLOSIS
In 2008 SYLOSIS had a fantastic debut with 'Conclusion Of An Age'. Their grand melange of thrash, metalcore and lots of technical finesse will appeal to all kinds of metalheads. The following bands can be mentioned as cornerstones of the SYLOSIS sound: Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Soilwork, Pantera, Testament. If this is not the crème de la crème of both the younger and older generations of metal, we don't know what it could be! This is the second time we welcome these UK hopefuls in Dinkelsbühl, where they will showcase the highlights of their superb debut and hopefully also a few new songs as part of the Nuclear Blast Label Night. Because the band have been in the studio for quite some time already working on album number two. What's the old saying again? Good things come to those who wait!
